TWO North-East dance crews showed they had all the right moves after winning the top prizes at a regional competition.
Darlington-based Hustle won the under 18 advanced category at the United Dance Organisation (UDO) North-East Street Dance Championships, in Sunderland, last month, while their younger teammates, Hustlers, won the under 14 intermediate category.
Both teams train at Dimensions Dance Academy, in Darlington, and fought off competition from around 40 different teams to take the titles.
Four couples from the academy also took home first place trophies, while their solo dancers brought home five first places, five seconds and one fourth.
Dimensions Dance Academy launched in 2011 and has since gone from strength to strength, with dancers regularly taking the top prizes at both regional and national competitions.
Academy owner Gill Reed said: “I am so proud of them all. We are like one big family and everyone looks out for each other.
“With it being a more local competition, a lot of their dads came to watch them dance. Often it is the mums who come and watch them, but the dads loved it which was lovely to see.”
The academy is hosting a Christmas show on Saturday, December 20 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, in memory of Ms Reed’s father, Harry Stephenson, who died in October.
The show takes place from 7pm to 9pm at Hummersknott Academy, in Darlington, and tickets are £7.50 for adults and £4 for children and concessions.
A raffle will also be held and donations are welcome. To donate call 07709-522-000 or email gilldimensions@icloud.com
The academy is also looking for new dancers aged eight and over to take part in regional and national competitions.
