DETECTIVES investigating a reported violent robbery have now concluded no offence actually took place.
Four people arrested in connection with the alleged robbery have all been released from police bail without charge.
The incident in the Valley Road area of Northallerton was originally reported on November 11
A 43-year-old local man suffered severe facial injuries, which still require continuing medical treatment.
But following an extensive police investigation, which included house-to-house enquiries, detectives have not been able to establish how the man suffered his injuries.
However, they believe the likelihood is that the injuries were not the result of any criminal activity - and that anyone else was involved.
Detective Constable Michelle Waite said: “I believe that this report was made in good faith, based on the severity of the man’s injuries.”
However she went on: “Despite a number of lines of enquiry, the cause of the injuries remains unexplained.”
And she added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those members of the public who came forward and offered us information about this incident. Their assistance is greatly valued.”
Anyone with information which could piece together what happened should contact Northallerton CID on 101, select option two and ask for Michelle Waite. Alternatively, information can be emailed to michelle.waite@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
