A TEESSIDE MP today (Tuesday) welcomed plans to resurface part of the A19 to reduce noise levels.
Details announced yesterday in the Government's Road Investment Strategy showed that the stretch of the A19 from the A1027 at Norton to the A689 at Wynyard, will be widened for a third lane in each direction, while being resurfaced to reduce noise.
Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham, who has helped nearby residents state their case to government for the noisy concrete stretch of road to be redone, said he welcomed the announcement while saying more needed to be done by the Government on road maintenance.
Mr Cunningham said: “I welcome the announcement that the concrete section of the A19 Billingham Bypass will be both widened and resurfaced, and I know that this news will be warmly received both by commuted affected by severe rush hour congestion and by residents in those areas plagued by road traffic noise."
