A CONTROVERSIAL club night that invited students to “show off your sexiness” has been cancelled.
Filthy, which due to take place at the Loveshack nightclub, on Walkergate, Durham City, last night (Sunday, November 30), was cancelled due to “unforeseen circumstances”, organisers Monk Durham said on their Facebook page.
Based on Exeter University’s Safer Sex Ball, it purported to promote safe sex; but critics claimed the event was misogynist and objectified women.
The Monk statement said: “Unfortunately due to much deliberation, Filthy has had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances that have arisen.
“We are incredibly sorry to those of you who have booked tickets and were looking forward to attending the event.”
People who had bought tickets are being offered a refund.
