Officers in Bishop Auckland are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted while walking home along Tenters Street in the town in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday, November 30).

The victim, a 20-year-old man from Bishop Auckland, was returning home from a night out with friends when he was attacked, just after 3am.

He sustained serious head injuries during the assault and remains in hospital where his condition is described as stable.

The suspect is described as a man in his twenties, of medium build, and wearing a black top with dark trousers.

He left the scene in the direction of Edgar Grove.

Detective Constable James Vance said: “This was a nasty attack for which we have so far been unable to find a motive. The victim had enjoyed a night out with friends and was walking home when he was set-upon.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the assault, or has information that might help with our enquiries into this incident to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC James Vance on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
