A NORTH-EAST branch of Cancer Research UK has raised more than £60,000 for the charity this year, beating all previous records.
Professor Herbie Newell accepted the cheque on behalf of Cancer Research during the event at Cotherstone Village Hall, Teesdale.
Dozens of people attended the festive fair, where another £2,450 was raised by the Teesdale branch of Cancer Research.
Brenda Thwaites, treasurer of the committee, said: “Yesterday was our annual Christmas Fair, in which we always hand over the money we have raised for the year.
“£60,000 is the most we have ever raised in a single year, which is just amazing. It has been a fantastic year, and we are so thankful to everybody who has fundraised for us.
“The atmosphere has been lovely and friendly, and Professor Herbie has given a lovely talk about Cancer Research and the wonderful work the charity does.
“We are so proud, not just for ourselves, but for all of the people who have helped us.”
