WHILE summing up the inquest into Captain Holloway’s death, coroner Andrew Tweddle, broke down in tear as he recalled his own son’s death.
Mr Tweddle’s son, Aidan Tweddle, died hours after his car left the road and hit trees on the A167 dual carriageway, south of Durham, in November 2007.
Mr Tweddle's sister, Alison, who was 17 at the time, was also in the car after being collected from Durham train station following a shopping trip in Newcastle and was uninjured.
The 21-year-old died from internal bleeding after sustaining multiple injuries during the crash.
While making his final comments to Capt Holloway’s family, Mr Tweddle said he would "feel very proud" to hear tributes to his son like those paid their son.
He wept as he repeated Officer C's words and said: "I have difficulty saying this.
"My son died some years ago in a car crash. If someone had said to me what that officer had said, I would feel very proud."
