AN autism charity has renewed its appeal for elf-themed selfies to raise vital funds for its toddler services.
The North East Autism Society (Neas) launched its text donate campaign last month and as Christmas approaches it is urging more people join in the fun by posting their festive snaps on Facebook and Twitter.
The aim is to raise £50,000 to extend the charity’s successful toddler group, based in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, to other towns across the region.
To take part, either download an app or dress up, take a selfie, upload it on to Facebook or Twitter, tag in Neas and nominate friends, relatives and colleagues.
Donations can be made by texting elfi14 followed by desired donation amount, such as ?3 to 70070.
Kerrie Highcock, family development manager at Neas, said there had been a good response so far but said more “elfie-selfies” were needed to meet the fundraising target.
She said the toddler group was an important service and the charity was keen to reach out and support even more youngsters.
“Parents can often find accessing mainstream toddler groups extremely difficult,” she said. “Autism is a hidden condition so others may think a child is being naughty or has bad behaviour when in fact they may be finding it difficult to cope in the group or communicate their needs.”
