A LARGE collection of vintage costumes will be going under the hammer in Barnard Castle next week.
Gowns worn by leading ladies from the historic Carnegie Theatre in Cumbria, will take centre stage in the specialist vintage fashion auction which is taking place at Addisons on Thursday, November 27.
Highlights include a Jean Allen London 1950’s chiffon and silk evening dress, an Alice Edwards Italian white daisy embroidered navy cocktail dress, a Carol Craig New York black cocktail dress and an After Six Ronald Joyce crimson evening dress.
Sale organiser and vintage fashion specialist Marella Darvill said: “There are some fabulous pieces in the collection and the fact that they have this ‘dramatic’ past will certainly add to their appeal.”
Among the lots there is also a striking 1960’s/early 70’s Sportaville paisley flared trouser suit together with several vintage fur and faux fur jackets.
Gentlemen are also well catered for with a wide range of evening jackets, tails, military dress, overcoats and colourful blazers.
As well as the Carnegie Theatre collection, the sale includes many other interesting garments and accessories, including a 1960’s Aquascutum wool coat, a Cresta Couture 1960’s shift dress with matching swing coat and a cavalry officer’s dress uniform.
Many of the garments have guide prices ranging from £30 to £80 and there are also shoes, hats, gloves and vintage costume jewellery up for grabs.
Viewing for the sale will be held on Wednesday, September 26, from 10am to 7pm and on the day itself from 8am until 9.45am.
The sale starts at 10am.
