A SICKNESS bug has struck down 100 children at a York school - but has not stopped classes from going ahead.
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Roman Catholic Primary School remains open to pupils following the outbreak, however, parents are being warned to keep any children with symptoms at home.
Mark Ellis, head of school services at City of York Council, said: “As usual, the school is following guidelines to minimise the impact of what we believe to be a virus.
"An additional deep clean has been arranged with the school’s cleaners, all teachers and catering staff have been asked to ensure children pay extra attention to hand washing, and all parents have been reminded that children should not be sent to school with any symptoms and should keep all children who have been sick, at home for at least 48 hours after the last episode.
"Meanwhile, the school is operating as normal, and thanks parents for their co-operation.”
The council said it was not known what the bug was but that it was not being looked into further.
The newly formed school, which opened in January 2012, brings together the former schools of English Martyrs’ and Our Lady’s RC Primary.
