A MAN has died in hospital almost three weeks after an alleged attack in a pub beer garden.
Paul Morrison, of Burton Leonard, near Ripon, had been in a critical condition after suffering serious head injuries in the incident at the Wetherspoons Royal Baths pub in Harrogate and died on Thursday (November 20) afternoon at Harrogate District Hospital.
A 43-year-old man from the York area also required treatment for facial injuries during the incident at the Parliament Street venue at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 1.
Mr Morrison’s wife, Lisa, and children Marie, Leah and Joe said they had been devastated by his death.
In a statement they said: “Paul was a larger-than-life character, loved by so many people.
"He was a devoted family man, friend and businessman who will leave a hole which can't be filled.
“The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for all their support, care and compassion shown over the last three weeks.
“We also thank everyone for all their kind wishes and continued support.”
Following Mr Morrison's death, police are holding talks with the Crown Prosecution Service about the investigation.
A 44-year-old man from Harrogate was charged with actual bodily harm on the 43-year-old man and grievous bodily harm without intent against Mr Morrison when he appeared at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on November 4.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to call 101.
A police spokeswoman said: “We have established that Mr Morrison and the other alleged victim were with a group of men who may have been talking to some women inside the pub."
