HUNDREDS of students made fundraising a casual affair to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Three schools forming the Northallerton and Catterick Federation combined their efforts swapping uniforms for casual wear in a sponsored event for Children in Need.

Cake stalls and competitions, such as ‘guess the sell by date’, boosted the grand total to £2,300, the best effort to date by Risedale Sports and Community College, Hipswell, nearby feeder school Colburn Primary School and, in Northallerton, the Allertonshire School and Northallerton College.

Associate principal John Kelly said: “This is one of the first occasions we have come together as a federation to raise much-needed funds for charity.

“Our three schools share a badge, the Cuthbert Cross, and it is great to see that they also share a common will to do something for others. The grand total is a staggering amount of money and shows clearly one of the benefits of working together as a federation.”

The federation in its current state was formed in 2013, although Northallerton College and Risedale College have been in partnership since 2009.

The partnership aims to ensure success for all students by sharing resources and shaping its curriculum to meet students’ interests and needs.
