FARMERS are to be encouraged to help barn owls living on their land.
The Campaign for the Farmed Environment has organised a free event at the Three Horseshoes Inn, Running Waters, near Durham on Thursday, November 27 starting at 7pm. John Olly will provide an overview of local barn owl populations and what they need to thrive on farms across County Durham.
Campaign regional co-ordinator Fraser Hugill said: “The aim of these events is to improve our understanding of barn owls.
“By understanding the needs of the barn owl we can then use the new CAP greening measures to encourage more barn owls onto our farms.
“At the end of the evening we should all have a better understanding of the habitat requirements for barn owl which will help us develop robust populations better prepared for inclement weather which has impacted on populations in recent years”.
A light supper will be provided and places must be booked in advance from Sarah Maughan on 07432 562198 or email yorkshirenortheast@cfeonline.org.uk.
