AN investigation has been launched by North Yorkshire Police after the body of a man was discovered in the River Foss at York.
The body was recovered from the river, near Layerthorpe, by fire crews who launched a boat after a member of the public alerted the police around 11.30 this morning (Tuesday November 18).
Detectives say the death is unexplained and they are still tracing the man’s next of kin. They are not expecting to be in a position to name him until tomorrow (Wednesday) at the earliest. An investigation has been launched on behalf of the coroner. Officers are appealing for anyone with information which could help the inquiry to contact them on 101 - select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room. Quote reference NYP-18112014-0128.
