CHARITY trio Fat Lads on Bikes have set their sights on a new goal - to raise enough money to fit a sensory room for a severely disabled 8-year-old girl.

Millie Mann, who is unable to communicate and has to be fed through a tube into her stomach, has more than 20 epileptic fits every day.

Her mother, Aimee Mann, set up campaign With Millie-ions of Love earlier this year in the hope that she could raise enough money for the room, which will also include a wet area.

And she was delighted when Fat Lads on Bikes asked to help.

Miss Mann, 32, from South Bank, Middlesbrough, said: “Millie is severely disabled so she cannot do anything but she gets enjoyment from lights.

“The sensory room will help stimulate her and hopefully will help her interact more.

“We have made a wishlist for the room including fibre optic lights and bubble tubes. It will make a huge difference to her life, as she cannot use normal children’s toys because she has no co-ordination.

“Fat Lads got in touch to say that they were going to do something. We could not believe it – they have taken over everything and are organising the design. They are like guardian angels – it was completely surreal.

"We are hoping to raise £15,000 as soon as possible."

Neal Bullock, 41, who founded Fat Lads on Bikes, was so moved by the family’s plight that he decided to help out in any way he could.

He said: “When I heard what Millie and her family had gone through, it was impossible not to be moved and I decided that we would do whatever we could to help.

“We are already planning a fundraising bike ride from Whitby to Millie but what I thought they really needed was a bit of DIY SOS work on their home.

“The most important thing that Millie needs is her own space and wet room, so we have already been asking for electricians, builders, joiners and the like, to offer the skills to help transform this young girl’s life. If anyone wants to help out in any way they can please get in touch with us.”

Nicola Hugill, a friend of the family, said: “Fat Lads are fantastic people for helping Millie and her family. Big thank you.”
