A GROUP of youngsters have received a police accolade for creating an exhibition to highlight how crime affects the community.
Shannon Robinson, Georgia Robinson, Charlie Piechniczek, Jasmine Foster and Rio Pullen from Colburn, near Catterick, were presented with the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire community arts award after devoting their summer holiday to the thought-provoking display.
It included a graffiti wall and an alleyway with lurking figures.
The team won a PGL adventure holiday for their efforts.
Sergeant Kevin Graham, of Catterick Safer Neighbourhood Team, described the team as "inspirational" and said they all had a bright future.
He added: “The team should be thoroughly proud of themselves for this fantastic project.
"It is great to see that they understand the impact that antisocial behaviour has on local people and spread that message throughout their local community.
“They are a credit to our community, their school and their families and I hope they have a fantastic time on their thoroughly deserved holiday.”
The award was part of North Yorkshire Police’s Lifestyle Challenge, an annual competition for children aged ten to 16, who want to do something positive for their community during the summer holidays.
Courtney Bushby, Leah McCabe, Toni Webster, Katie Stevens and Abigail Derwent, from Stokesley, scooped the Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership award and Kindle HD Fires for their scheme to tackle the problem of bogus callers.
Yasmin Tonna and Lewis Brown, from Whitby, won the North Yorkshire Police environmental award and Kindle HD Fires after clearing litter from beaches in Whitby and Sandsend and creating posters encouraging people to take their litter home with them.
