A CAR driver was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough by police helicopter after his vehicle hit a tree on the A167 in County Durham.
Three fire engines were sent to the scene, near to the Cock O The North roundabout, Durham, at around 7.50pm on Monday night.
A spokeswoman for Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue said a man was cut free from the wreckage, suffering from a broken femur, arm and leg.
