A NEW night of street food and live music is to be piloted in a multi-storey car park.
The Durham Street Food Project will see food from around the globe sold from about 15 stalls in the Prince Bishops car park, Durham City, while local bands entertain diners.
The first event will be held on Friday, November 28, from 6pm to 11pm and, if successful, it could become a monthly fixture.
Toby Marshall-Robertson, from organisers The Asian Project, said: “The Durham Street Food Project is all about creating a completely new experience in Durham, one that we’ll all be talking about until the next one comes around.”
Richard Toynbee, centre manager at the Prince Bishops, said: “We’re trying to bring something new and fresh to Durham, something a little bit different.
“Our car park is being reinvented for the night into an unexpected but ideal setting.”
Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said: “The Durham Street Food Project brings together a dozen exciting food producers in one place, just for a few hours, creating an event the likes of which Durham has never seen before.”
Food stalls will include Hanni’s Kitchen, Papa Ganoush, Longhorns BBQ, Earth and Fire, Electric East and The Asian Project and there will be drinks from the Leamside Brewery.
Music will come from North Road, the Rita Payne Duo and more.
The event will take place on the car park’s level six, with entry from level five. Levels six and seven will be closed to parking.
Entry costs £2 per person. Tokens for food and drink will be available on the night, priced £2 each. The event is cash-free.
