POLICE are appealing for witnesses after what is thought to be part of a human ear was found in a city centre street.
Staff from Sunderland Royal Hospital contacted police shortly before 7am this morning (SUN) to say a member of the public had made the grisly find.
Police believe the discovery may be connected to an altercation in Derwent Street at around 5.15am.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Police are in the early stages of investigating this incident but are appealing for any witnesses or persons with any information to contact them”.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101.
