A MAYOR has officially started a city’s countdown to Christmas.
Councillor John Robinson, the Mayor of Durham, pressed the switch to send thousands of bulbs flickering into life across Durham City tonight (Sunday, November 16).
The Christmas lights switch-on was the finale of an afternoon of entertainment which also featured music from Trimdon Concert Brass Band and appearances by stars of the pantomime Aladdin, which opens at Durham’s Gala Theatre on Thursday, November 27.
The event was organised by the Durham Business Improvement District (Bid), which is also promising a programme of festive entertainment over the coming weeks.
