A SCHOOLBOY’S design has been chosen for a Bishop’s Christmas card.
Children at St Hild’s College CE (Aided) Primary School, in Gilesgate, Durham City, were challenged to design cards for the Right Reverend Mark Bryant, the Bishop of Jarrow.
The winner was year four pupil Lucas Jones’ Angel of the North image, which Bishop Bryant called “wonderful”.
“Church schools are an important part of life in the diocese,” the Bishop said.
“Every day we teach 14,000 children and young people, which is a significant contribution.
“I ask schools to design my Christmas card because it makes sense to go where the ideas and creativity are and I chose St Hild’s this year because they have always made me feel welcome.”
Acting headteacher Alex Ryder said: “We have a special relationship with the Bishop and this was a special and wonderful opportunity for our children.
“They put a lot of thought into making sure that their designs reflected not just Christmas but also the North-East of England.
“They will be proud that one of their designs will be sent all the way round the region.”
