A MAJOR department store is combining Christmas cheer with charity fund-raising.
Barkers, on Northallerton’s High Street, is offering customers a free gift-wrapping service when they hold their Christmas Shopping Party on November 27.
And in return they will be asking for donations for the £2m appeal for an MRI scanner at the town’s Friarage Hospital.
The store hopes to raise hundreds of pounds by wrapping presents for customers between 10am and 7pm at its late-night shopping day – when panto characters will also be mingling with customers.
Spokesman Dawn Ledger said: "Barkers is a key part of the Northallerton community so we are very keen to help an important local cause as the scanner will benefit so many people in North Yorkshire.
"They need to raise a final £1m and we will do everything we can to help boost the fund."
