A RESTAURANT known for its exotic food is selling Reindeer Burgers in the countdown to Christmas – complete with miniature antlers.

The menu at the Court Inn, in Durham City, already includes zebra meatballs and whole roasted squirrel but throughout the festive season landlord Trevor Davis is offering 8oz Reindeer Burgers.

As well as specially reared reindeer, from north Wales not Lapland, the dish comes with pricey wild mushrooms, festive cranberry and mulled wine cheddar cheese, costly black winter truffles and real gold leaf on top, plus antlers.

On the side, there are spicy sausages and bacon, sweet and regular potato fries and crunchy coleslaw.

The dish, which Mr Davis says will feed two, will be available daily, individually cooked and priced at £35 a time.

“Everybody says the reindeer tastes better than beef – much more flavour to it,” he said.

“We sell a lot of exotic food here already and this is specially reared for human consumption.”

In September, the Court Inn offered a wartime home front menu to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
