MULTI-million selling singer Faye Tozer got a city’s Christmas underway when she switched on its festive lights.
The former Steps star, who has made the North-East her home after marrying a local man, did the honours in Sunderland at a special ceremony this evening (Thursday, November 13).
The five-strong group Steps sold more than 25 million records worldwide between 1997 and 2001.
Mayor of Sunderland, Stuart Porthouse, said: “Our annual light switch-on has long been recognised as a spectacular, bright and colourful event that begins our countdown to Christmas.
“Lights at Christmas always help remind us of how welcoming the festive season is and our switch-on is a fantastic family and community occasion for everyone to enjoy.”
The switch-on event also featured music and a big firework display.
It marked the start of a series of Christmas events that will run until Tuesday, January 6
