A POPULAR Santa Run that has raised thousands for a hospice has moved to a new location for the 2014 event.

The St Teresa’s Darlington Santa Run encourages people to don red hats and suits and a fluffy white beard before tackling one of three courses designed to appeal to people of all ages and abilities.

The event has been moved to West Park Academy, off West Auckland Road, Darlington, and will take place on Saturday, December 6, from 10am.

Registration to take part in the 5k Santa Sprint, for keen runners; the 2k Reindeer Run, a fun run that can also be walked and the Elf Amble, a 2k route for families to walk together, is now open.

Entry is £10 for adults, £5 for children and free for the under fives. Dogs can also take part in the Elf Amble for £2.

Father Christmas himself will also make an appearance in his grotto and there will also be a festive fairground, a tombola and a number of stalls.

Jane Bradshaw, chief executive of the hospice, said: “You don’t have to be an athlete - many people are running, walking or simply sauntering on this fun Santa Run.

“We’re so grateful for the support of West Park Academy, Morrisons Darlington and Darlington Borough Council and of course our lovely friends in Rotary for acquiring the Santa Suits.

“We are hoping to break the record for the most Santas, elves and little helpers amassed in Darlington to date.”

All proceeds from the event go to support the hospice and its work to support people with life-limiting illnesses in South Durham and North Yorkshire.
