POLICE found a man laid in his own mess and exposing his genitals in a public street, a court heard.

Stuart Breeze, of Durham Road, Spennymoor, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer and one of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Blair Martin, prosecuting, said the defendant was found laid on his back, exposing himself, at about 11.30pm on Thursday, September 25, in St Charles Road in Tudhoe Village.

“Police officers noticed a strong smell of faeces and a dark patch around his trousers. Officers had to lift him to his feet and he then kicked and pushed officers.” He said.

In mitigation, Jane Scott said the defendant, 36, suffered from agoraphobia and had drank alcohol to self medicate.

She added: “He is mortified at his behaviour and has since apologised to the officers, he has no recollection of the events and has said he would never have acted that way if he was sober."

Breeze pleaded guilty to all three charges and was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £50 compensation to each officer and a victim surcharge of £15.
