A CONTROVERSIAL plan to develop a gas processing plant at Thornton-le-Dale, in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, has been scrapped.
The scheme resulted in a major, lengthy planning inquiry at Ryedale House two years ago, which ended in approval being given by a planning inspector.
Now, two companies seeking to develop a gas field at Ebberston Moor are jointly planning to build a single pipeline connecting it with the Knapton Generating Station, near Rillington.
Andrew Acum, marketing director of the project, said Third Energy UK Gas Ltd and Moorland Energy plan to provide the link through an underground pipeline.
“The two companies have been in discussions and propose to construct the pipeline.
“This means that the proposed Thornton-le-Dale processing plant will not now be needed. We believe the new proposals fully comply with local planning policies since they make use of existing structure.”
Mr Acum added that talks had also been held with all local authorities in the area, together with residents and stakeholders.
