VOLUNTEERS who help people through difficult times have been thanked for their efforts by the Bishop of Durham.
Bishop Paul Butler commissioned 13 Authorised Pastoral Assistants (APAs) in a service at Durham Cathedral on Tuesday (July 1).
APAs work alongside regular church clergy in supporting people in need, such as those facing old age, illness or bereavement.
Bishop Butler said: “Their work is essential and much needed and I want to thank them for all their hard work.
“I would encourage anyone who thinks this kind of work might be for them to contact their local parish.”
