DURHAM Police Chief Constable, Mike Barton has announced that he has appointed an assistant chief constable.

Dave Orford joined the Constabulary as a constable in March 1995 having previously served in the Royal Engineers.

Mr Barton said: “Dave has been temporary assistant chief constable for 18 months now and has demonstrated himself to be highly capable in this challenging role.”

Mr Orford said: “I have served the residents of County Durham and Darlington throughout my police career and I am immensely proud to have been appointed to this role in the county I was born and brought up in.

“I look forwarding to continuing my work with colleagues and partners to make County Durham and Darlington a safer place”.

Ron Hogg, Police and Crime Commissioner, said, “I am thrilled that Dave will become a permanent member of the executive team,”

Mr Orford has served in both operational and support positions and at all ranks, including response, neighbourhood policing, firearms and professional standards.

He was most recently head of Tasking and Co-ordination Command, before being appointed temporary assistant chief constable in October 2012.
