A COMMUNITY group has helped a Darlington charity provide vital support for people with dementia by donating £250.
The donation, made by the Darlington Inner Wheel Club, will go towards the creation of a new dementia zone at Age UK Darlington’s headquarters, in Bradbury House, Beaumont Street West.
The money will be used to buy a range of items to support the development of the zone, which is expected to be officially opened later this year.
The zone has a number of specially adapted facilities for people with dementia, including a shower room and treatment room.
Chief executive of Age UK Darlington Gillian Peel said: “We are very grateful for this donation. We always appreciate how much hard work goes into fundraising and are pleased that they have selected a local charity in this way.
“Our customers will enjoy having the activities and soft furnishings which will be purchased with this donation. Some are already talking about the nostalgic games they would like such as bar skittles and shove ha’penny.”
