THINK before you drink is the advice from police in North Yorkshire as they launched a summer safety campaign.
Too many lives are ruined because of drinking they warn as they urge residents to keep safe and avoid becoming the victims of crime.
The campaign 'Less Drinking, More Thinking' is launched today (Wednesday, July 2) and will run for eight weeks, raising the awareness of the dangers of excess drinking.
They are focusing attention on a range of issues including drink driving, domestic abuse, water safety, home security and looking after personal items.
Chief Constable Dave Jones appealed to everyone to have a happy and safe summer.
He said: “With the warmer weather, we know that more people will be out and about enjoying themselves and I am sure that some will be having a drink. I am asking you to think about how much you are drinking so that you stay safe this summer.
“I am also asking that you take a few simple steps to avoid spoiling your summer. Make sure you plan nights out before hand so that you can get home safely, don’t take risks near open water and make sure you remember home security, keep burglars out.
“If you are a victim of domestic abuse, I urge you to come forward. We have specially trained officers who can support you, as well as working with partners who offer advice and guidance.
“My officers are also maintaining their vigilance for people who drive under the influence of alcohol and anyone caught drink driving can expect to be dealt with robustly.”
