A REETH performance group will be celebrating the Tour de France with a comedy sketch evening tomorrow night. (Wednesday, July 2)

The Reeth Artyfacts will be performing Tour de Farce at Gunnerside Village Hall. The show is made up of sketches reflecting both real and made-up opinions of the Grand Depart's visit to the Yorkshire Dales.

Member Karen Mcleod said some of the lines in the show had come from overheard conversations, and scenes include a council meeting discussing the road closure, a farmer’s kitchen and doctors’ surgery where patients gossip about the plans.

She said: “One of the best lines is: It’s time to batten down the hatches and wait until it’s all over – like the snow.

“There will be sketches and songs, and lots of stereotypical characters including a French policeman, farmers and a vicar.

“Lots of people in the Dales won’t know what has hit them so we thought we would do a funny show about stereotypical attitudes.”

The parody was first performed during a variety show in Reeth last week, and after its success it is being repeated in two venues.

The next performance will be tomorrow night at 7.30pm at Gunnerside Village Hall, followed by another on Friday, July 4 at 2pm in the Dales Bike Centre in Grinton.

Tickets for the first performance cost £7 on the door, and on Friday entry is by day pass into the spectator area at Grinton Bike Centre.

Reeth Artyfacts were established in 2006 when a 1940s script for a village pantomime was unearthed, and a group of volunteers decided to re-stage it to raise funds for the Swaledale Museum.
