A ROUND the clock cricket match is being held to try to score the most runs in 24 hours, notch up a world record and raise money for the Fraja Ellie appeal.

The match organised by Crakehall Cricket Club, near Bedale, starts at 6pm on Friday, July 4 and will end at 6pm on Saturday against a team from RAF Leeming.

They are hoping the Guinness Book of World Records will recognise the attempt.

Six year old Fraja Ellie Simpson, whose father Gary works at RAF Leeming, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive neuroblastoma cancer.

Despite her young age, Fraja has undergone gruelling and ongoing treatment and tests to keep the cancer at bay.

An appeal for half a million pounds was launched to raise money for further treatment in the United States which could help save her life.

The cricket match is being played on the village green and organisers are appealing for supporters to cheer them on, at least while it’s still light, tea and cakes are on offer as well as refreshments at the village pub.

The 24 hour game is one of a number of fundraising events for the Fraja appeal by the cricket club. The annual match against stars from Emnmerdale is being held on August 10 with a live singing set by Natalie Anderson. A sponsored sky dive is also being held.
