A STUDENT has received a college award which has been renamed in honour of a famous vet.
East Durham College student Natalie Usher won The James Herriot Foundation Award in Veterinary Nursing, presented at a ceremony held in the college’s Houghall Campus in Durham.
The 22-year-old, from Crook, is the first winner of the award, which was originally named the Houghall Veterinary Nurse of the Year Award but has been renamed after the Thirsk-based foundation agreed to be sponsors.
Ms Usher, who has a full-time job as a veterinary nurse assistant at Vets4Pets, said: "It was a huge surprise when my name was announced, I still can’t believe I have won the award.
“I have loved every minute of my time here at Houghall and will leave extremely proud after picking up this award.”
