ELEVEN of the region’s best golfers will be trying to seal a place at this year’s Open Championship today.
Graeme Storm, Robert Dinwiddie and Simon Dyson, three European Tour golfers, are the biggest North-East names pushing for an appearance at the Royal Liverpool major in the week starting July 13.
Hartlepool’s Storm will be teeing off his 36 holes at Hillside along with City of Newcastle’s Alex Dixon, Hartlepool's Alex Wrigley and Harrogate’s John Parry.
Dinwiddie, from Barnard Castle, will be competing alongside Rockliffe Hall’s James Maw at Woburn.
And Malton & Norton’s Dyson will join Prudhoe’s Thomas Rowland, Darlington’s Simon Calvert, Bamburgh Castle’s Garrick Porteous and Close House’s Chris Paisley will be looking to progress from Gailes.
There are three spots available from each of the final qualifying venues today as the competitors look to make the most of their final chance to place at Hoylake if they are not on the main Tour.
