A FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD boy who broke into a County Durham primary school has admitted burglary.
The youngster was with a friend when they forced open the doors to Woodham Burn Community Primary School in Newton Aycliffe on the evening of June 18.
Prosecutor Rachael Dodsworth told Newton Aycliffe Youth Court today (Monday, June 30) that the pair also broke into a shed in the school grounds.
They fled when the school’s alarm sounded and nothing was stolen in the burglary.
Mitigating, Laura Moorby said the boy’s offending stemmed from his inability to stay away from acquaintances who caused trouble in his Newton Aycliffe hometown.
She added that his place in foster care was now uncertain due to his behaviour and he was likely to be transferred to a residential unit in Birmingham.
Magistrates placed him on a 12-month youth rehabilitation order with supervision and activity requirement.
They also imposed a three-month curfew from 8pm to 7am and told him to pay £15 compensation.
Ms Dodsworth clarified that the police were aware of the identity of the teenager's accomplice but had not yet arrested him.
