THE leaders of the Brabazon Trophy have headed out on their final rounds just as the leading two North-East golfers have walked off the 18th green at Seaton Carew.

Both Whickham’s James Simpson and Prudhoe’s Thomas Rowland bounced back from a frustrating third round on Friday by carding much-improved 74s this morning.

The one-over par totals followed respective a 77 and 78 yesterday and they are currently sitting tied 42nd on four over, although there are plenty of golfers still on the course.

Boldon’s Gavin Nesbit was three over through the front nine and sits on five-over.

It promises to be an exciting finale to the English Amateur Strokeplay Championship. Irishman Cormac Sharvin and Englishmen Ben Stow and Ryan Evans have recently started their final day at the County Durham links course.

The conditions were poor this morning, but the sun is trying to sneak through and the rain has stopped as all three leaders look to edge ahead from their seven-under par scores that are leading the way.

There are also seven players on six-under and a further four just a shot further back, with many internationals, so the final round promises to have a topsy-turvy ending.

The biggest mover of the day so far has been Southport's Sean Towndrow. He has shot five-under at the turn to climb to within a shot of the leading group.
