Two people have been arrested following an assault on a man in Gateshead.
It happened just after 10pm on Friday, June 27, on a piece of waste ground between the rear of Gateshead High Street and High West Street, overlooked by Warwick Court and the Gloucester Pub.
A 52-year old man was attacked and suffered injuries, including a suspected broken nose and ankle and other facial injuries. The ambulance service attended and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he is still receiving treatment. His condition is described as poorly, and not life-threatening.
A 31-year-old man and a 27 -year old woman have been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
