A BURGLER has been given his second prison sentence in six months after being caught by his courageous victim.

Anthony Gunn’s victim was sat in her living room in Montrose Street, Middlesbrough, on the morning of December 11 last year when she heard a tapping noise coming from the rear of the property.

She went to investigate and saw the 23-year-old with his face pressed against the window.

She then ran to the back yard, grabbed the burglar and took him to the front of her house where she told someone to call the police.

Peter Sabiston, prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court yesterday, said Dunn claimed he had got the wrong house and was looking for someone who had burgled his sister’s house.

In mitigation, Alex Bousfield said Gunn had tried to talk himself out of the situation, but had probably made the situation worse by doing so.

She said: “He accepts entirely his involvement in the offence, although he can’t really recall it to any extent.

“He tells me he was homeless at the time. He had taken a cocktail of drugs.”

Gunn, of Parliament Road, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to burglary and Judge Peter Armstrong jailed him for 12 months.

The sentence will run concurrently to his existing three-and-a-half year prison term for a burglary he committed a week after the Montrose Street incident.
