A TALENTED fashion designer has had her work featured on a popular reality TV programme less than four weeks after launching her own business.
Cherry Cumberland set up Pink Cherry Couture in May from her home in Rushyford, near Newton Aycliffe, selling bespoke luxury women’s wear.
Using social media sites, the 29-year-old sent pictures of her unique beachwear to a number of stars of The Only Way Is Essex (Towie) and they were so impressed some of her Kaftans have already featured in the programme.
In addition, she has also had interest from companies in London, Dubai and Las Vegas about selling her designs.
The fashion design graduate took the decision last year to set up on her own, having worked for Top Shop and Harrods.
“I enjoyed what I was doing, but I always wanted to set up on my own I just kept finding excuses not to,” she said. “It was a bit scary and a bit of a risk, but I absolutely love my job.
“I think it started because I couldn’t find what I wanted. I don’t think there is anything like what I do.
“I started by selling things on eBay to make some money and then I launched in May and it has really taken off. I tweeted some of the Towie stars with pictures and they asked to buy them. I didn’t know they were going to be worn in the programme.”
The former Durham High School for Girls pupil has also had her beachwear used in the Miss Newcastle final.
“It was amazing to see my work on the catwalk,” she said. “I love my work and I pride myself on all my designs being unique. They are one-offs. I think that keeps it interesting.
“I also make sure all my materials are from English suppliers. I love all the pieces I make and would wear them myself. I am making beachwear at the moment because it is summer but I plan to make dresses as well.”
She added: “If I get really busy I might take someone on to help, but I don’t want to mass produce what I make.”
