A RUNNER has raised more than £1,200 for the hospice which treated his father during his battle with cancer.

Dave Griffiths, from Cotherstone, in County Durham, ran 60-miles across two counties over two days in aid of the Eden Valley Hospice, in Cumbria, in memory of his father, Bryan.

He departed from his Teesdale home and followed a 28-mile route across Alston Moor on day one of the challenge and ran the final 32-miles to the hospice on the second day.

Although Mr Griffiths regularly raises money for the hospice at running events, the 60-mile challenge was to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his father’s death.

He said: “I chosen to support Eden Valley Hospice as I have personal experience of the care they give to patients with terminal illness.

“They took great care of my dad Bryan during the final stages of his battle with cancer.

“Every year I take part in a ten-mile road race to raise money for the hospice.

“It will be ten years this November since my dad passed away and I felt I should mark the occasion by doing something a bit more challenging.”
