PUPILS at a North-East school are marking 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War all this week.
Thornaby Academy students will remember fallen soldiers through special events including performances of war-time poetry and analysing pre and post First World War maps and their significance.
PE students will be conducting army drills, making make-shift tranches, while science and maths departments will develop their own Morse code to send messages around the academy,
Stockton-on-Tees Mayor, Councillor Barbara Inman, visited the academy today (TUESDAY JUNE 24) to see the various exhibitions and speak to students about their plans.
Principal of Thornaby Academy, Maryssa O’Connor, said: “It is vitally important that our students recognise the significance of the centenary and honour the brave soldiers who fought for this country at war, with so many not returning home.
"We look forward to seeing how the project impacts on students and their learning in the future.”
