SHAKESPEARE’S Henry V is perhaps best known for the line: “We happy few, we band of brothers.”
But a Durham University student theatre group is about to turn the famous quote on its head, staging the Bard’s classic history play with an all-female cast.
In what is believed to be a first for Durham, Thrust Stage will present an all-woman Henry V at the Assembly Rooms Theatre, on the Bailey, Durham, from Wednesday to Friday (June 25-27).
Artistic director Matt Dann said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for female students to tackle some of Shakespeare’s most iconic characters, reserved traditionally for male actors.
“It marks the continuing contribution of students in the North-East to pioneering theatre and is set to offer our audience a unique spectacle in the heart of historic Durham City.”
There are shows each night at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 for adults, £7 for students and £6 for Durham Student Theatre members. To book, visit dur.ac.uk/dst
