A CITY’S second annual fashion festival hits the catwalk later this week (June 26-29).

Fashion InDurham will feature fashion shows, late-night shopping events and more, from Wednesday to Sunday.

New for this year is a Thrift Fair, encouraging shoppers to buy charity shop clothes and furniture and upcycle the items for re-use.

The Thrift Fair will be held at the Gala Theatre, Durham, on Sunday (June 29), from noon to 4pm and is being supported by Oxfam Boutique, on the city’s Elvet Bridge.

Store manager Michael Ridsdale said: “Upcycling and recycling are very close to our hearts at Oxfam.

“The Thrift Fair will showcase a range of thrift businesses whether they are upcycling furniture or making jewellery from plastic bottles.

“The Thrift Fair is also a good platform to pull people into Durham City and it gives us a platform next to major high street names and that helps us raise funds.”

Elsewhere, a designer catwalk event and launch party at the Slug and Lettuce pub, Walkergate, on Wednesday night has already sold out.

Men’s clothing store Woven, in The Gates shopping centre, will host a gentlemen’s Summer Soiree on Thursday from 6.30pm to 10pm. Tickets are £5, available in store.

The Glitter Ball, showcasing fashion jewellery, will be held at The Hub, Millennium Place, on Friday from 6pm to 7pm. Tickets are £5, available by calling 0191-384-1212.

There will also be catwalk shows in Durham Market Place on Saturday at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm and Sunday at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, with Big Brother winner Anthony Hutton compering.

In addition, there will be various fringe events.

The event is organised by Durham’s Business Improvement District (Bid).
