A NORTH York Moors ranger and former primary school teacher has been jailed for three years after admitting child sex offences.
Kelvin Young, who also worked as a bus co-ordinator for the North York Moors National Park Authority, admitted sexually assaulting boys in his class between 1974 and 1989 and downloading 237 indecent images of children.
Bradford Crown Court heard the 65-year-old, who had befriended one of the boys' parents and promised to coach him at sport, was assaulted in front of other pupils after Young brought him to the front of the class to read.
Young, who also worked as a lay preacher at the Zion United Reformed Church in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, assaulted another boy in his bedroom during a school trip.
Judge John Potter told the former Cottingham Croxby Primary School teacher he had committed a "serious and significant breach of trust".
The judge said the abuse of the boy in the classroom would have been "particularly humiliating" as it was done in front of his classmates.
He said: "These offences suggest you have, in my view, a long-standing interest in the abuse of children, both in terms of abusing children themselves or viewing the abuse of children."
