POLICE investigating the theft of a life belt have released CCTV images of a man they would like to trace.
The belt was taken at around 1.45am on June 6 from the Old Life Boat in Whitby as it was moored in the harbour near the swing bridge.
The CCTV images show a man wearing the life belt around his neck at around 1.55am that morning and police are appealing to anyone who recognises him to contact them.
PC Matthew Rogers said: “We would like to speak to the man in the images as he could have important information which could assist our investigation. I am appealing for the man himself or anyone who can help identify him, to contact us as soon as possible. ”
Officers believe that the man was not from Whitby and had stayed in the town with friends as part of a fishing trip.
Contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for PC Matthew Rogers or email matthew.rogers@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk. To remain anonymous pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
