A POLICE force has appointed a new top detective in charge of investigating serious crime.
Detective Chief Superintendent Gary Calvert has been appointed by Northumbria Police to head its investigations into murder, organised crime and other major crime enquiries.
The 51-year-old has spent most of his career as a detective, including working as a senior investigating officer in charge of a number of murder investigations.
