A BAND will take to the stage at a North-east music festival the day after headlining at Glastonbury.

Eighties ska band The Selecter will be the headline act on the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury before travelling up to County Durham for the Stone Valley Festival.

The festival, held in Stanhope, started last year as a music celebration for scooter enthusiasts.

Organiser John Brannan said this year’s event, being held on Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28, will offer a mix of attractions.

He said: “The scooters will still be there, they will do a big parade for charity, but there should also be lots of other things for people to enjoy.

“The music is going to be unbelievable, to have a band like The Selecter playing is just phenomenal.”

The Selecter, still including original members Pauline Black and Gaps Hendrickson, made their name in the 1980s as part of the Two-Tone movement.

Other acts set to perform on the Stanhope stage include tributes to The Jam and The Beatles, Third Beat Drop, Circuit 68, Ska Mania, The Last Fakers and The Inner Light.

Also playing will be The Talks, The Scandals, The Electric Stars, and JD and the Woodsmen.

The scooter ride out will be held at 11am on Saturday (June 28) to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Mr Brannan said he is expecting around 1,200 people to attend the festival with camping places soon to be sold out.

He said: “A lot of people said last year that they thought Stone Valley is one of the coolest festivals there is, and his year’s is shaping up to be even better with the festival to become a big hit on the North-East’s music calendar.”
