STUDENTS are to become a part of history after burying a time capsule to mark the creation of a school dedicated to the development of young engineers and scientists.
The teenagers, who are due to attend Discovery School when it opens in September, buried a selection of items on the Blandford Street site in Newcastle where the new £9m school has been built.
Among the items buried were drawings and plans of the school, photographs, pictures of students, old newspaper stories about Discovery School, and written statements from the students about why they wanted to enrol.
The school will offer traditional GCSE and A-Level qualifications in a state-of-the art building equipped with more than £1m worth of engineering equipment.
It will prepare young people aged between 14 and 19 from Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and County Durham for highly-skilled jobs in the engineering, manufacturing and science industries.
It is working with a number of companies from across the North-East, including Siemens, Dyer Engineering, Pirimal Healthcare, Egger, Ryder Architecture, Cundall, Liebherr, PDL Solutions, Ubisoft Reflections and domnick hunter Filtration and Separation Division.
