POLICE have thanked shoppers at a North-East supermarket who helped an officer detain a man wanted on suspicion of burglary.
Shoppers at Morrisons in Darlington’s Morton Park came to the aid of a plain clothed police officer who was attempting to detain the suspect after he allegedly became violent.
The incident took place earlier today (Friday, June 20) and the the 32-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary, shoplifting and assaulting a police officer.
He is currently in custody.
Detective Sergeant Sean Jackson, of Darlington CID, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to those people who helped.
“It goes to show there are more good people in this world than there are bad.”
- A 32-YEAR-OLD Darlington man has been charged with burglary, theft and assaulting a police officer. He has been remanded into police custody where he will appear before magistrates on Saturday morning.
